Efflorescence

Efflorescence is a visual manifestation of the development a human being experiences from the time of birth to the time of adulthood and beyond. We start as this small curled up being, a metaphorical rose bud, born into an expansive world of knowledge and discovery. As time goes on, we begin to bloom and to grow both physically and mentally. We begin to grow taller as our personalities become more prominent. Throughout it all, there is something inherently important about this time frame where we are merely a rosebud, slowly creeping our way into becoming a full blown rose. This recurring important “something” is our teachers, our guardians, our mentors, our influences, and those who shape us into who we are today. If a rose bud is not watered, not nurtured, it will just wither away, and the same thing applies to us as people. The roses in this piece represent this growth and development we experience, and the patterns are an example of the intricate and complex way our minds work. Together they are a metaphor for what we experience and how important it is to encourage the way we grow.
